Team 8 Ball League
Our team 8-ball leagues are co-ed with no more than eight players per team. The teams play ball-in-hand and call your pocket format (No Slop Shots). All players are to play by the rules that are established by The Association for POOL, Inc (TAP). Each new team will be provided with a rule book. You can also view the rule books online by clicking the 8 & 9 Ball Rules link.
In order to make it competitive and fair for all levels of players, all players are given a handicap based on their individual performance each time they play. (handicaps range from 2 for beginners up to 8 for advanced amateur) These handicaps are dynamically updated each day based off ALL players activity across the Nation. Players handicaps can fluctuate daily based off their play and also the play of other players across the Nation. Local league operators do not set handicaps unlike other formats out there. Players who are listed as a handicap 8 are considered to the most advanced/experienced players in amateur pool.
The maximum handicap limit a team may play on any given night is 25 for five players total combined handicap level. This allows for balance within the team and keeps teams from being loaded with all six and seven skill levels.
Team 9-Ball League
Our team 9-Ball teams also consist of co-ed players and can consist up to eight players as well. Five players from the team shoot each night. As in 8-ball, the total handicaps of participating players must not exceed 25 and all players are within a range of a 2 through an 8 handicap. Texas Express Rules. Nothing is called and the 9-ball hit in leagally wins the rack. Race to your handicap. (this is the style of 9-Ball you see on ESPN) For a complete set of rules, please refer to the link for rules above.
The Team
A team is comprised of five to eight players. A team captain is chosen by the team and is the point of contact used by the league to discuss matters regarding the team and also represents the team in players meetings.
The Player
Each player will acquire a handicap range from 2.0 (lowest) to 7.9 (highest) based upon individual performance and the performance of all players across the Nation. Handicaps are updated daily by TAP's exclusive National, webbased stat and handicap system called PoolNet.
The Match
A match is a race to a determined number of games based on a player's handicap. Teams play 5 matches a night. The total of the players handicap per team can not exceed 25 for a given night.
The League Session
Our league sessions can last up to 16 weeks. Each year there can be up to 3 sessions (Summer, Fall and Spring in this order). Each team plays five players per night, for a total of five matches against another team in the division. Each match won counts as a point for that team. The teams with the most points at the end of the session are contenders for the playoffs (called Titleholder) and could represent their division in one of our major Tournament Events. In order for a league session to start a division must have a minimum of four teams.
The End of Session divison playoffs
There are no divisional level playoffs at this time. Instead, you playing for seeding in the Titleholder tournament.
Titleholder Team Tournament
The titleholder tournament is held on a weekend after each session and is held to determine who wins the prize purse and the payouts determined for that session. As a general rule, the number of teams per division determines the number of teams each division sends to titleholder. 4 teams = 1 titleholder slot, 6 teams = 2, 8 teams = 3, and 10+ teams = 4 teams (top 3 + 1 wildcard). The winners of the titleholder tournament win money and a slot at the TAP National Tournament. The amount of cash payouts and the number of teams qualifying for the National Tournament depends on the number of teams playing each week during the session. Generally one out of 20 teams will qualify each session.
Wildcard teams will be determined on a lottery basis.
For example: Division A has 10 teams. The top three automatically qualify for the titleholder event. The 4th spot would be drawn for from the other teams. The drawing is a weighted drawing which gives the higher ranked teams a better chance at wildcard than the low ranked teams. The # of entries to the drawing would be as follows:
4th place - 7 entries, 5th place - 6 entries, 6th place - 5 entries, 7th place - 3 entries, 8th - 2 entries, 9th - 1 entries, 10th - 1 entry.
The size of the prizes depends on the size of our league. The more teams play, then the more they contribute to the player's prize fund. So, encourage everyone to play.
****Prize Note---Prize payout will be determined by the number of teams playing each week. Pay out amount may change at anytime without notice. Prizes may be paid out in any form including, but not limited to money, trips, merchandise, or other non monetary prizes. Players winning prizes are responsible for all taxes associated with the prize.****
